Gagosian: a true original
Gagosian Beverly Hills is devoted to modern masters. Located on North Camden Drive, this striking space is home to pieces by Jenny Saville and Nancy Rubins. Talk-of-the-town exhibitions have celebrated diverse artists including Roy Lichtenstein and Man Ray, while Louise Bourgeois – whose sculptures are also in the hotel art collection – has featured too.
The big Frieze
February sees Los Angeles Frieze, as the annual art fair rolls into town. Dynamic and vibrant, it brings together more than 100 global galleries and shines a spotlight on the city’s contemporary art scene.
Since its Los Angeles debut in 2019, Frieze has grown year on year, expanding to new locations. 2022 saw The Maybourne Beverly Hills join the roster of hosts, as WhIsBe unveiled a seven-foot high, powder-blue giant gummy, dubbed ‘Vandal Gummy’, at the hotel.
For dedicated followers of fine art
Nestled alongside the fashion houses of Rodeo Drive, close to The Maybourne Beverly Hills, stands Winn Slavin Fine Art. For collectors, it showcases an inspiring gallery by international artists from Ukraine to Colombia. Amongst the modern masters in the frame here are Degas, Renoir and Lautrec.
Nearby, Denis Bloch Fine Art deals in masters including Picasso and Joan Miro with fresh works by pop and street artists creating a brilliantly diverse collection.
LACMA’s new look
The reimagining (and 2024 reopening) of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) heralds the creation of a single-story gallery spanning 350,000 square feet. Designed to walk visitors through contemporary art history, pieces flow from Picasso to Warhol.
