U.S. Open

Blue skies and green fairways are the calling cards of summer, as the U.S. Open golf championships tee off at the Los Angeles Country Club from June 15th - 18th 2023. A firm fixture on the PGA Tour and European Tour, with the largest prize pot of the four major championships, expect strokes of brilliance from the world’s top players.

The U.S. Open was first staged as a single-day competition in 1895, but in 1898 it expanded to 72 holes played across four days. And while it moves from course to course across the country, the format of this historic sporting highlight has remained the same ever since.

Country club, city views

A verdant jewel lying just beyond the city’s Golden Triangle, the Los Angeles Country Club is only a short hop from The Maybourne Beverly Hills. The club was established in 1897 by a group of local Los Angelenos, and has been in its present location for over a century. Marking its first major championship, this year’s U.S. Open will unfold on the club’s challenging North Course – a carefully restored stretch of undulating ground, framed by dramatic bunkers and natural gorges.

An international affair

While the U.S. Open has been dominated by American winners in recent decades, all eyes will be on the emerging English player, Matt Fitzpatrick, who returns to defend his 2022 title. Matching raw talent with consistent performance, Northern Ireland’s Rory McIllroy is also one to watch this year.
